Kids Dance Classes Christchurch

Kids Jazz & Tap Dance Classes

Our classes are designed with all children in mind, from the incredibly shy to the free spirited children. We allow children to go at their own pace in a nurturing and encouraging environment, whilst still producing a highly professional class and giving them a great introduction to dance and dance technique.

We cater to all children regardless of their level of skill, confidence or physical ability and parents are welcome to watch and even participate alongside their children. Our dancers are treated as individuals and we work with our families to ensure that each child is enjoying their time with us. Childrens Dance Classes Christchurch

Juniors (5-7 Year olds)

These classes are a follow on from our Boppity Bots level which incorporates a solid introduction to dance technique, terminology and elements. Choreography is a focus and students learn to recognise different dance genres and pick up technical movement.

Tuesdays: This class is slightly more advanced than the other junior options and alternates from week to week with jazz and tap, loosely based on syllabi. It is more technique focused and a solid foundation for on-going dance levels. We also teach a routine for both of these genres and explore choreography more deeply.
- Classes run for 50 minutes.

What to Bring

While our classes don’t have a uniform, we all know how much our wee dancers enjoy being dressed like a beautiful ballerina. We now offer a great range of affordable, excellent quality dance apparel including everything that every budding wee dancer needs. You can view our range online and order here

If nothing appeals or they prefer to turn up in leggings and a t-shirt, this is completely fine. Dress ups are also welcome, so long as there are no safety concerns like capes, dangly pieces, restrictive costumes or long dresses which can make some movements difficult. We do recommend that students dress appropriately and have a firm safety inspired rule of no socks for our wooden or vinyl floored locations.

Our Tuesday afternoon school aged classes are recommended to have a tap and jazz shoe if possible, but again, this is not compulsory.

We also recommend that students have access to a water bottle, but no food is to be consumed during class and some of the halls we use prefer it not to be brought in and our instructors find it difficult to compete with yummy snacks when they are on offer during class.

Enrolment is compulsory and you can register for classes by filling in the registration form online here

Please remember too that as we don’t require a new form each term, you must let us know if your details change or your child is not returning to avoid being charged. Your child’s spot will be reserved and will automatically roll over each term. Registration is subject to class availability and we will notify you to confirm placement once we have all enrolment details.

Stacey  (Instructor)

My name is Stacy May Goldsworthy and I am a fully qualified and registered teacher with a Bachelor of Teaching in Early Childhood Education and am also a registered teacher with the New Zealand Teachers Council. I have been working in the Early Childhood sector for over 8 years. I have been teaching dance and yoga to children ages 2-15 for 15 years. I am a dancer myself and have been dancing for over 30 years. I am trained in Tap, Contemporary, Jazz and Ballet. I have danced throughout New Zealand, Australia and overseas.

My two passions are dance and young children and I have been lucky enough to be able to combine both into one amazing job. I believe that children should learn at their own pace and be able to express themselves through creativity and exploration. I love to guide children on the path they choose and then nurture each child’s individual abilities. Every child is unique and special and I am privileged to be able to be a part of the journey that all of the children I teach, take

EMILY (Director & Instructor)

Like most little girls, I started dancing in a tutu at the age of 3 and I have never looked back. After training in ballet, jazz, contemporary, musical theatre, tap and hip hop, I started teaching at the age of 17. Twenty years later, I now have a list of experience as long as my arm. I have danced professionally as a cheerleader for the Paul Kelly Crusaders Cheerleaders, performed onstage in various productions and promotional events, featured in dozens of Bollywood films and music videos, owned and operated Rhythm Nation Dance Ltd and much more. During this time though, I discovered that what I enjoyed most was teaching the little ones.

There is nothing I enjoy more than seeing the exhilaration and sense of achievement on a child’s face when they master the skip or the two feet jump. The way they light up when given an opportunity to perform gives me that same feeling of achievement. The fact that I have an opportunity to make my passion my career, allows me to foster that same passion in the students I teach. I genuinely love what I do and I like to think that is reflected in my classes. Give me a space, music and children to teach and I am truly happy.
